Chapter 29 Are You Really Level 13?
"You told me to give it all my effort, so I did," Lucas said to the bulky man who was glaring at him with narrowed eyes.
The bulky man remained silent for a moment before asking him, "Are you really level 13? Your prowess is on par with even some of our level 30s."
"Yes, I am," Lucas confirmed with a serious expression.
"…How many skills can you use?"
"Three," he calmly responded.
"Three skills… Hahaha! Not bad! Not bad at all! You pass the interview! Welcome to our guild, Lucas! By the way, I am Ken." The bulky man said as he extended his hands out for a handshake.
Lucas looked at the hand, but he didn\'t shake it.
Ken recalled that Lucas wasn\'t good with people, so he retrieved his hand and said, "My bad. I forgot."
The way Ken treated Lucas after he was accepted into the guild was entirely different than a moment ago, as he seemed more humble.
"Everyone, welcome our new member, Lucas! As you just witnessed, he\'s a strong one! Believe it or not, he\'s only level 13, so he has plenty of potentials!" Ken announced to everyone there.
The place quickly became filled with cheering and clapping.
"Welcome, Lucas!"
Sometime later, Ken said to Lucas, "Follow me. Let\'s make you an official member of the guild."
Lucas then followed Ken back upstairs and into another room where a woman was sitting in front of a computer.
"Jenny, we got a fresh one," Ken said to her.
The woman behind the desk tilted her head to look at Lucas.
"Which division is he going?" she asked.
"The raid division!" Ken responded in an enthusiastic voice.
The woman turned to look at Lucas with a calm face and asked, "Is that what Ken wants, or is that what you want, newbie? The raid division specifically handles clearing dungeons."
Lucas nodded without hesitation, "Yes, I want to clear dungeons."
"What\'s your name and level?" Jenny then asked.
"Lucas, level 13."
Jenny raised her eyebrows and turned to look at Ken, who nodded with a slight grin on his face.
Jenny didn\'t question further and typed his information into their database.
"Lucas, do you prefer the frontline or the backline? Are you more offensive or defensive? Maybe support? It would also be convenient if we knew your abilities."
"I think I prefer fighting in the front. As for my abilities… I can strengthen my attacks, enhance my movement speed, and I have Sword Mastery that allows me to use the sword more proficiently." Lucas said, giving brief details for some of his skills.
"Three skills, huh? Not bad." Jenny nodded after learning this, and she felt that his recruitment was more justified now.
"As for your team…"
"He\'ll join my team!" Ken declared before Jenny could even finish her sentence.
However, Jenny sighed and said, "Ken, how many times do I have to tell you that you don\'t have the authority to decide their team even if you\'re the one who recruited him? Furthermore, you\'re not even a Team Leader."
"Che. How stingy." Ken snickered coldly.
Jenny ignored him and looked at Lucas, "There are three different teams for the raid division, each led by its own Team Leader. Every newbie will have their information reviewed by the Team Leaders, and if the Team Leader is interested in having you within their ranks, they will approach you. Every team has its own rules. For example, one team may give you a higher share of income than the other, or one team might be stricter than the others when it comes to raiding dungeons; it all depends on the Team Leader."
"Give them a few days to review your information. In the meantime, look around the guide and make some friends." Jenny said to him.
"Lucas, let me show you around."
"Okay."
They left the room shortly after, and Ken continued to speak once they were outside, "As Jenny had said, I don\'t have the authority to make you part of my team, but I can convince you to join my team."
"You mentioned that you want to raid dungeons for money, right? Well, our team has the highest share rate out of all three teams, meaning that you\'ll earn more money if you join us— granted that you\'re putting in the effort."
"There\'s a lot of things that I want to say, but I will leave it to my Team Leader to tell you, as I am sure that she will be able to convince you to join us."
Lucas didn\'t say anything and silently followed Ken around the guild\'s headquarters.
"To be honest, besides the training area and the cafeteria, there really isn\'t much in the headquarters since it\'s mostly work-related, and since you have already seen the training area, I will show you the cafeteria."
Ken then brought Lucas to the cafeteria and showed him their large menu that had over a hundred different dishes.
"By the way, do you have a place to stay right now? If not, you can stay here since we have a lodging area for guild members."
"Is it free?" Lucas asked.
"Of course."
"Then I will live in the headquarters."
"Alright. Let\'s go speak with the room manager then." Ken said.
And he continued, "Just like how there is a division specifically for raiding dungeons, there are divisions in the guide that purely focuses on logistics and support. However, that doesn\'t mean they\'re weak since everybody in the guild had been tested the same way regardless of their job in the guild."
Thus, Ken took Lucas to another room inside the massive building.
"Hey, Lock, we got a newbie that needs a room," Ken said to the middle-aged man sitting behind the desk.
The man called Lock looked at Lucas and said in a nonchalant manner, "That will be 5,000 dollars a month."
Lucas raised his eyebrows after hearing this, and he turned to look at Ken, who merely smiled and said, "He\'s just messing with you."
"Che. You\'re always ruining the fun." Lock sucked his teeth.
"Anyways, we only have one room available, so I guess that will be your new room starting today. What\'s your name, kid?" Lock asked.
"Lucas."
"Here\'s your key." Locked tossed him a key and said to Ken, "You can show him the room."
"You lazy bastard. Ain\'t that your job?" Ken said.
"It\'s yours now. I got a meeting in a bit." Lock shrugged.
"You always have a meeting every time you got a job to do." Ken shook his head before leaving the place with Lucas.
A few minutes later, they arrived on the third floor.
"Your room is at the end of the hall to the right side. I have to speak with the Team Leader in a bit, so I will leave you alone now. If you need anything, call my number."
"I don\'t have a cellphone," Lucas said.
"You don\'t have a home nor a cellphone? How have you been living before this?" Ken raised his eyebrows.
"I was homeless," he responded in a calm voice.
"Oh…" Ken was left speechless by such a response.
"Well... I hope you enjoy your new home," he said a moment later.
